Dr Faye Kirkland was given an exclusive interview with the General Pharmaceutical Council following the episode of the BBC Panorama investigation ‘Online Doctors Uncovered’. The broadcast led, in part, to the regulator changing its rules on online pharmacies.

Families of patients affected by poor care online contacted Dr Kirkland after watching Panorama. One patient who died was able to buy codeine from 18 online pharmacies without her own GP knowing, who was also prescribing the medication. At the time of broadcast, the coroners inquest was still to be held but her family felt the codeine contributed to her death.

The story was online and broadcast on BBC Breakfast and the Today programme in April 2019.
