Dr Faye Kirkland and Senior Producer, Noel Titheradge, exposed how child victims of sexual assaults were not being forensically examined within a critical time period at some privately-run referral centres. Whistle-blowing doctors told also said they had seen cases of injuries being incorrectly recorded and evidence of forensic contamination in adults. At the time of broadcast the Victims’ Commissioner Baroness Newlove said the “failings were shocking”. NHS England – which jointly commissions services – said it had not been made aware of the concerns.
The story was broadcast on the BBC News Channel, the Today Programme (Radio 4), Victoria Derbyshire, the BBC News at One and online in January 2019.
